UL-DJ7.DOC
UL-DJ7.DAT is an alternate configuration file for Qedit that has
a few conveniently defined keys for placing the underline, float
underline, underline off, landscape and portrait mode control
codes in your text as imbedded commands. To install these features
follow this procedure:
Create a second copy of your Qedit executable file that will be
custom configured for using with your DeskJet 500 with this command:
Copy Q.exe Qdj.exe
Next run Qconfig.exe and where it asks for the program name enter
Qdj.exe. Then press K for the keys set up and enter ul-dj7.dat
as the key configuration file to read. Press H and enter dj7-hlp.txt
as the help file to read. Press S to save the changes and quit
the configuration.
Using the underline mode:
Type the text that you want underlined, then with the arrow keys
go back and place the cursor On the first letter of the phrase that you
or line that you want underlined then hold down the Ctrl key and
hit F2 twice (or F3 if you want a "Float" underline) this will "embed"
the control code into your text, next hit the end key to take you to
the end of the text you want underlined and while holding down the Ctrl
key hit F4 twice. If done exactly as I described this procedure will
not change how the line of text is formatted when it prints out so remember
to do any centering or other formatting of the line before you put in
the control codes.
The Bonus Plan:
As extras I have added Ctrl F5 to imbed the Landscape control code and
Ctrl F6 to embed the Portrait control code. These can be quite useful if you
have a page that is a graph that you may want to print sideways in which case
you might want to start with an embedded form feed Ctrl P then Ctrl L, hit
Return then Ctrl F5, then use the arrow key to move the cursor down to the
end of the Graph page and insert the portrait control code Ctrl F6 and another
form feed. When the print command is sent the page marked should
automatically print out in Landscape (Sideways) mode while the rest of your
text prints out normally.
Two more extras include the F10 key for marking a block from present cursor
position to end of line and F12 for conveniently centering the line that the
cursor is on, which is much easier that the Ctrl O T that only a concert
pianist can perform without duress.
